PLACE AND FINISH
Concrete should not be deposited more rapidly than it can be spread, struck off, consolidated, and bullfloated. Placing should be started along the perimeter at one end of the work area with each batch placed against previously dispatched concrete. Continuously depositing as near as possible to its final position.
In some cases the concrete is placed in forms, and then consolidated. Consolidation compacts fresh concrete to mold it within the form and around embedded items and reinforcement to eliminate stone pockets, honeycomb, and entrapped air.
There are many ways slabs can be finished depending on the intended use. Options include various colors and textures, such as exposed aggregate or stamped surface. Some surfaces may only need strikeoff and screeding to be properly contoured and elevated, while other surfaces are broomed, floated, or troweled.
